Another Easter Sunday come and gone. Next Sunday almost everything will be back to normal. Attendance will shrink back. Extra services will be stored away until Mother’s Day and/or Christmas.
It doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe it won’t always be.
We can’t change our culture in an instant. We also can’t make other people’s choices for them. That’s a fool’s errand.
What we can do is examine our own choices, attitudes, and actions. We can – by the grace of God – be changed. With that in mind I want to invite you to celebrate Resurrection Monday.
No, it’s not a new holiday I invented. I won’t try to sell you candy, gifts, cards, decorations for your home, or any other such thing.
Resurrection Monday is a state of mind. It reflects the profound truth that Jesus’ resurrection from the dead doesn’t just have influence on one Sunday in March or April. Jesus is still alive today. His resurrection is applicable to your Mondays, too. All of them.
In fact, after we celebrate Resurrection Monday I want to invite you to celebrate Resurrection Tuesday with me. Then we can celebrate Resurrection Wednesday. We can do this all the way until Resurrection Saturday. Then we can simply repeat ourselves.
Jesus is alive.
Really. You can know Him. You can be known by Him. You can make Him known in the world.
He reigns as the King of kings. He is the sovereign Lord of lords. He will reign until He has redeemed a people for Himself from every tribe, tongue, nation, and people. Then He will return to gather them to Himself and to crush His adversaries under His feet.
This is the testimony of Scripture.
This is the meaning of Easter.
It’s relevant to everyone. It’s relevant every moment of every day.
It should never be obscured with colorful eggs or magical bunnies. What our calendar told us to remember yesterday is the most significant event in human history so far.
If today is just like any other Monday, perhaps you’ve misunderstood the message of Resurrection Sunday. If you do understand it, then will you make today Resurrection Monday?
So they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple courts blessing God. (Luke 24:52-53)
The earliest believers understood the significance. They saw Jesus. They ate with Him. They heard Him open the Scriptures and teach them from the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms everything that was foretold about Him. They learned from the risen Christ that:
- The Christ would be delivered to death by His own people.
- The Christ would be handed over to sinful men.
- The Christ would be crucified.
- The Christ would be buried.
- The Christ would rise to life again.
- The Christ would enter into glory.
- Repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in the name of the Christ to all the nations.
Will you worship the risen Christ today? Will you continually live in the light of this truth giving praise, honor, and glory to God? Will you participate in the Great Commission and testify to the truth of God’s Word that repentance and faith in Christ is the only means of salvation and peace with the living God?
